Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology (BMPT) website. Established in 2008, the department brings together academicians, researchers and postgraduate students from various academic backgrounds, like science, technology, engineering and medicine. The department is the pioneering public academic entity to offer biomedical engineering and medical physics education in Bangladesh. BMPT emphasizes on applied and target oriented research to deliver the benefits of modern healthcare technologies to the under privileged people globally, particularly in Bangladesh. Situated at the heart of the University of Dhaka, Curzon Hall, the department currently offers PhD, MPhil and MS Programme with two specializations: (i) Biomedical Engineering, and (ii) Medical Physics.

The key research themes of BMPT are Bioimpedance, Bioinstrumentation, Biosignal and image processing and Telemedicine. Our researchers have received funding from numerous national and international funding agencies including the International Science Programme (ISP), Sweden; the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh; the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Bangladesh; the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh as well as from Industry. Moreover, the department have research and training collaborations with both domestic and international organizations including BRiCM, BSMMU, BUET, DMCH, NINMAS, BAEC, MIST, NICRH, United Hospital, Uppsala University, and Edinburgh University.
