The department first embarked on its journey in 2001 at the Science Workshop. After nine years of dedicated operations there, it was relocated to the fifth floor of the Science Complex Building in 2009. Since its inception, the department has cultivated an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality education and conducting impactful research. It consistently attracts the top-performing candidates from the university's 'A' unit admission tests, who are privileged to pursue their studies here.
To date, twenty batches have successfully completed their undergraduate (BS) programs, and twenty-one batches have finished their graduate (MS) programs from the department. A considerable number of its alumni are now actively engaged in diverse professional arenas—including teaching and research—both within the country and abroad. Notably, the department's postgraduate students have achieved remarkable distinction in advanced studies and research at prestigious universities and laboratories worldwide, spanning the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, and beyond. Its extensive and well-endowed facilities include a fully equipped computer lab, a dedicated bioinformatics research lab, a well-stocked seminar library, a modern, state-of-the-art practical laboratory, and seven specialized research laboratories designed to support cutting-edge advanced investigations.
