Short Biography:

Dr. Kazi A. S. M. Nurul Huda is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is currently the Zuzana Simoniova Cmelikova Visiting International Scholar in Leadership and Ethics at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, University of Richmond, USA (2025–2027). He received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, USA, where he worked under the supervision of Professor Wayne Riggs. His doctoral dissertation, “Recognition as an Orientation: Moral and Intellectual Implications”, developed an account of recognition as a normative orientation and explored its moral and epistemic implications. He also earned an MA in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma under the supervision of Professor Edward Sankowski. His MA thesis, “Amartya Sen’s Political Philosophy of Development and Micro-credit in Bangladesh”, critically examined Sen’s account of development by focusing on trust and the relationship between micro-credit NGOs and rural women in Bangladesh. He also holds an MA and a BA (Honors) in Philosophy from the University of Dhaka.

Dr. Huda’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of epistemology, social and political philosophy, and ethics. His current work focuses particularly on recognition, intellectual virtue and epistemic injustice, political open-mindedness, leadership ethics, trust, and the epistemology and ethics of political life. He also works in applied philosophy, including development ethics, business ethics, environmental ethics, philosophy of education, bioethics, and philosophy of public policy.

His research has appeared in journals including Res Publica, Developing World Bioethics, Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility, Business and Professional Ethics Journal, Cultural Dynamics, International Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Debates in Aesthetics. His recent work develops a normative account of recognition and examines such topics as epistemic injustice in micro-credit and aesthetically conscientious practice.

Dr. Huda’s current research projects address political open-mindedness and leadership, the epistemology of mass uprisings, epistemic injustice in public institutions, and recognition as an intellectual virtue. His research has been supported by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and the University of Dhaka.

Alongside his academic research, Dr. Huda is actively engaged in public philosophy and public scholarship. He regularly writes on democracy, political reform, trust, constitutional questions, higher education, and contemporary Bangladeshi politics for national and international publications. His commentary and analysis have appeared in outlets including The Daily Star, New Age, The Business Standard, The Diplomat, E-International Relations, South Asia @ LSE, and the Journal of Democracy.

Dr. Huda welcomes inquiries from MPhil and PhD students and researchers whose interests overlap with his areas of research. He is also interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects connecting philosophy with politics, leadership, development, education, and other areas of public life.
