In a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and strengthening academic research, the University of Dhaka—represented by its Department of Oceanography and ICOG—signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, operating under the Ministry of Natural Resources, People's Republic of China. The landmark ceremony took place on the 27th of December 2021.
The event, marking a crucial milestone in oceanographic research and cooperation, was organized in the Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom using the Zoom platform, combining both the conventional essence and the modern virtual touch.
Several eminent personalities graced the occasion physically. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, the Honourable ViceChancellor of the University of Dhaka, led the distinguished panel, which included Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Pro VC (Academic); Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Treasurer; Professor Dr. Md. Kawser Ahmed, Member (Secretary) of the General Economic Division, Planning Commission, People‘s Republic of Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Towhida Rashid, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences; Md. Jobaer Alam, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography; and Dr. KM Azam Chowdhury, Assistant Professor from the Department of Oceanography, University of Dhaka.
The representatives of the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center from China marked their virtual presence, bringing in their expertise and vision for this collaborative endeavor.
In a defining moment of the ceremony, Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Treasurer of the University of Dhaka, signed the MoU on behalf of the institution, symbolizing the union of two prominent entities dedicated to the exploration and conservation of marine environments.
