Dhaka University Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CoETL, DU) is organizing a series of talks for academics and researchers by renowned international speakers (teachers / researchers / CETL leaders / industry managers / policy makers). Dr. Subarna Khan (Associate Director, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, New Jersey, USA) spoke on “Advancing in industry: Choosing among many paths” in a virtual platform on the 20th November, 2021.
Professor Dr. Sabita Rezwana Rahman (Director, Teaching Learning Centre) presided over the Workshop and delivered the welcome speech. She mentioned ‘It is important to understand how an academician and researcher can lead his students to choose among paths in academia, government and industry. The topic covers the various choices of career a student may have after finishing his graduation’. She also said ‘It directs how a career in industry can link to the university. Teaching is complete when we can guide the learners to a successful career path as a teacher’. Dr. A.T.M. Shamsuzzoha (Additional Director) conducted the question answer session.
The facilitator focused on Teaching creates knowledge and enlightens the learners with options to choose among paths as a career. The guidance of a teacher in choosing among many paths is so important for the students. The mindset of a student is important. There is no scope to sit back and relax in one’s career. She said ‘We want to tell our learners to be updated to be flexible, to be willing to learn. Learn to go above and beyond your own expectation’. Flexibility, Curiosity, Resourceful, Attentiveness, Boldness, Accountability and Collaboration; these are the qualities that we need to put in the mind of our student. Also this talk highlighted ‘No job is less important as long as it can contribute to the total economy and the SDG of our nation. Success depends on the inclusive development of the whole community’.
It may be mentioned that the DU, CoETL regularly runs series of workshops on the modules like teaching pedagogy, modern approaches to teaching & learning, research methodology & project proposals, quality assurance processes and practice, communication skills of teachers, ethical aspects and awareness of plagiarism under the direction of Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka for quality education in the University.
