On June 14, 2025, the Delegation of Young Leaders from Bangladesh to China arrived in Shanghai from Guangzhou, commencing a three-day visit for cultural exchange and observation.
On June 15, the delegation toured the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center as their first event in Shanghai. Through three exhibition halls themed on “An Innovative City,” “A Humanistic City” and “An Ecological City”, the delegation members gained insights into Shanghai’s past, present and future planning. Following this visit, the delegation further deepened their understanding of Shanghai’s urban development through a series of activities.
Shanghai boasts a revolutionary history rooted in pioneering and innovation. On June 15, the delegation visited the Memorial of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, where they learned about how the Party was founded in Shanghai and its historic journey of pioneering efforts and perseverance in leading the Chinese people forward. Shanghai advances through innovation. The New Development Bank (NDB), the first multilateral development institution established and led by emerging market and developing countries, received the delegation on June 17. The Delegation of Young Leaders from Bangladesh to China is also the first Bangladeshi delegation hosted by the NDB. During their visit and discussions, the delegation members delved into the Bank’s mission, member states, governance and its innovative shareholding structure, as well as its highlights over the past decade. Delegates engaged in in-depth exchanges with NDB staff on topics including currency exchange, Bangladesh-related projects and education.
On June 16, the delegation visited Gubei Civic Center, comprehending the “whole-process people’s democracy” and observing how the concept it is adopted in an international community. At Shanghai Hongqiao One-stop Service Center for Overseas Talent, members experienced firsthand the humanistic care for foreign residents of the Hongqiao Street in Changning District. On June 17, the Shanghai Library East captivated the delegation with its overall architectural design, art collections, and comfortable reading spaces. Many members praised Shanghai as “city of books”.
At Huawei’s Lianqiu Lake R&D Center on June 17, delegates rode miniature trains through distinctive architectural clusters, witnessing the symbiosis of water and forest ecosystems in the center, while experiencing the fascinating integration of technology and nature.
Moreover, the delegation attended a roundtable forum hosted by the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), featuring Professor Yang Jiemian’s lecture “International Relations Start at Home: My Understanding of China’s Foreign Policies”. The delegation also engaged in discussions with Professor Yang, representative Bangladeshi students from Tongji University and East China Normal University, and SIIS graduate students. As evening fell, the delegation ascended the Shanghai Tower and embarked on a Huangpu River cruise, enjoying Shanghai’s stunning night skyline from different perspectives.
On June 18, the delegation departed for Beijing via high-speed rail to continue exploring the underlying logic of China’s development.
