From June 11 to 14, the 2025 Bangladesh Youth Leaders Delegation to China, consisting of 24 members, visited Guangzhou. The delegation is organized by the Centre for China Studies (Bangladesh), which is established under the leadership of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) in collaboration with prominent think tanks and universities in China. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) hosted the delegation.
Attending the “Roundtable Talk between Young Scholars from China and Bangladesh
On the morning of June 12, GDUFS invited the delegation to attend the “China-Bangladesh Young Scholars Roundtable”. Scholars from both countries engaged in in-depth and lively exchanges on global hot topics, as well as bilateral cooperation at regional and global levels.
Delegation members exchanged views with Chinese scholars, focusing on artificial intelligence, China-US relations, the Belt and Road Initiative, and Bangladesh-China cooperation. They emphasized that youth from both countries should play a significant role in advancing bilateral relations and development across various fields. The meeting was chaired by Liu Ming, Vice Dean of the Institute for International Education at GDUFS.
Visiting White Swan Hotel
On the afternoon of June 12, the delegation visited the White Swan Hotel, one of China’s first five-star hotels to open to the public. A project manager at the hotel introduced its establishment and development history. Through this visit, the members gained insight into the progress of China’s reform and opening-up at the enterprise level.
Visiting the Office of Outlook New Era News Agency
On the afternoon of June 13, the delegation visited the office of Outlook New Era News Agency, where they discussed topics related to media and international communication. Wang Junzheng, President of Outlook New Era News Agency, attended the event and delivered remarks. He expressed hope that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to strengthen cultural ties, enabling more Bangladeshi youth to know and understand China.
Dr. MD Rakibul Hoque, Head of the Delegation and professor at the University of Dhaka, noted that Bangladesh and China already enjoy a solid foundation of cooperation across various fields, and he looked forward to further promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Subsequently, the delegation toured the famous scenic spot Shamian Island, appreciating the evolution of local commerce and the historical heritage of cultural exchange between China and the West.
Experiencing Local Cuisine
During their stay in Guangzhou, the delegation also experienced local delicacies, performed prayers at the Xianxian Mosque, and took group photos beneath the Canton Tower.
Through their visit to Guangzhou, the delegation gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of China’s reform and opening-up process, the development and planning of the Greater Bay Area, Lingnan culture, and Guangzhou’s vibrant social landscape.
