On August 25, 2025, the Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (CIID) and the Department of World Religions and Culture at the University of Dhaka jointly hosted a special seminar titled “July Revolution: Spirit of Religious Harmony and Way Forward” at the Dr. Sakina Azhar Seminar Room. Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest, emphasizing the enduring need to preserve national unity. Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury, keynote speaker and Coordinator of Students Against Discrimination Movement, urged participants not to forget the July Revolution and to work collectively to uphold its legacy. He elaborated on Michel Foucault’s concept of the “spirituality of politics,” highlighting how spiritual values unified diverse communities during the revolution. Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud and Dr. Shafi Md. Mostofa contributed to the discussion with critical reflections. Dr. Mahmud cited the Quran to frame the revolution as a response to political suppression. At the same time, Dr. Mostofa expressed concern over the fading revolutionary spirit, calling on youth to revive the values of harmony and good governance. The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Elius, Director of CIID, who concluded with a call for vigilance in safeguarding the revolution’s ideals. The event brought together scholars, students, and activists in a timely dialogue on the ethical, spiritual, and harmonious dimensions of political transformation in Bangladesh.
