Dhaka University Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CoETL, DU) is organizing a series of talks for academics and researchers by renowned international speakers (teachers / researchers / CETL leaders / industry managers / policy makers). Dr. Md Saifuddin Khalid, Associate Professor, Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark spoke on “Signature pedagogies & Learning preferences” in a virtual platform on the 16th of August, 2021.
Prof. Dr. Sabita R Rahman, Director, Teaching Learning Centre, began by paying deepest respect to the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman & his family members who were brutally killed on August 15, 1975.
She said “Bangabandhu is the ultimate inspiration of this nation. We are proud that Bangabandhu was the student of this University, who believed in fostering quality education and quality research in the country. We cherish the dream of Bangabandhu who believed education is the path of self-refinement that ensures right of the people”. Dr. A.T.M. Shamsuzzoha (Additional Director) conducted the question answer session.
The focus of this talk was on the Signature pedagogies as an approach in focusing on the specific traits of the core disciplinary field (for example, mathematics, management, chemistry, design etc.) and guides the teachers to design teaching and learning activities in accordance with these traits.
The participants learnt to define type of course instruction through assessing thyself & to identify and specify if the subject matter provided by the teachers could fulfil the learning of the students.
This talk also aimed in playing a vital role as an agent to solve or circumvent the barriers of developing, integrating and adopting digital systems in organizations, particularly in educational contexts by solving decision-making dilemmas at both individual and organization levels.
Dr Khalid is currently involved in DIRECT (Digital Research Center Denmark) project “Learning Technology for Improving Teaching Quality at Scale” funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. Dr. Khalid received the Best Teacher Award in 2016 at the Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University.
It may be mentioned that the DU, CoETL regularly runs series of workshops on the modules like teaching pedagogy, modern approaches to teaching & learning, research methodology & project proposals, quality assurance processes and practice, communication skills of teachers, ethical aspects and awareness of plagiarism under the direction of Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka for quality education in the University.
