Dhaka University Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CoETL, DU) is organizing a series of talks for academics and researchers by renowned international speakers (teachers / researchers / CETL leaders / industry managers / policy makers). Professor Sam Smidt (Director, University College of London Arena Centre, UK) spoke on “Modern approaches to Teaching & Learning” in a virtual platform on the 18th of October, 2021.
Professor Dr. Sabita Rezwana Rahman (Director, Teaching Learning Centre) presided over the Workshop and delivered the welcome speech. The Director Prof Sabita R Rahman mentioned that 18th October is a special day for the Bangladeshi people. She spoke “It is never easy to express the feelings of losing a brother who was only 10 years and 10 months old. Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi on October 18 in 1964. In August 15, 1975- Sheikh Russel was brutally martyred along with his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Founding Father of Bangladesh, his mother and other family members at his birth place, the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi. He was just a little school boy of class IV of University Laboratory School (ULS) within the campus of the University of Dhaka. This year the Government has declared 18th October as Sheikh Russel day. Sheikh Russel was fond of reading books, as heard from our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.” Direcor, CoETL wished to dedicate todays’ Professional Development Talk to “Sheikh Russel Day” to uphold the self-esteem, happiness and confidence in children nationwide. Dr. A.T.M. Shamsuzzoha (Additional Director) conducted the question answer session.
The facilitator focused on the various creative methods and innovative thinking of modern education which encouraged participating teachers to introduce new ideas. The speaker spoke about Professionalization Values, Continuous Professional Development, Student participation, Sustainability in Education what skills will fulfill the students need. Also this talk highlighted ‘How innovation in the education system is playing an important role in improving the quality of education.’
CoETL appreciates the role of British Council in arranging the facilitator for this particular talk. We believe be interactive Learning process through this talk can help build a strong understanding of teaching and learning amongst the teachers of the University of Dhaka.
It may be mentioned that the DU, CoETL regularly runs series of workshops on the modules like teaching pedagogy, modern approaches to teaching & learning, research methodology & project proposals, quality assurance processes and practice, communication skills of teachers, ethical aspects and awareness of plagiarism under the direction of Prof Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka for quality education in the University.
