Mujib Centenary Seminar Series I Jointly Organised by Microbiology DU and DUMAA
Department of Microbiology and Dhaka University Microbiology Alumni Association (DUMAA) have jointly organized the very first session of "Mujib Centenary Seminar Series", part of the birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through online platform using Zoom at 9:00 PM on 4 April 2021. Faculties, students and alumni from all over the world participated in the seminar.
This interactive session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Sabita Rezwana Rahman and co-ordinated by Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahaman. Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Emeritus Scientist, icddr,b, an eminent figure in the field of Microbiology discussed about her ongoing journey in research and capacity development in Bangladesh, after the welcome speech of Prof. Dr. Majibur Rahman.
At the very beginning of her speech, Dr. Qadri commemorated the inspiring visionary philosophy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation in her way of journey in research. The initial struggles and journey of Dr. Firdausi Qadri followed by her success were portrayed. Dr. Qadri talks on cholera vaccine, ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, scientific research, future promises, sharing of early days' memories. She specially emphasised on the collaborative research within home and abroad as well as industry-academia linkage for prospective research for ensuring sustainable development in Bangladesh. She spoke high about the congenial environment in the University of Dhaka for female researchers. Indeed, it was a great gathering, that took the audience down the memory lane, through commemoration.

The second session of the Mujib Centenary Seminar Series was jointly organised by the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka and Dhaka University Microbiology Alumni Association (DUMAA) on May 30, 2021 at 8:00pm in a virtual platform. Prof. Salina Parveen, Ph.D., Dept. of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, USA spoke on “A journey to food safety research and education”.
She highlighted the importance of industry academia collaboration for quality research and taught courses progress. She also emphasized on the risk-based food safety management in the overall food chain, from farm to fork.
This interactive session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Sabita Rezwana Rahman and co-ordinated by Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahaman. The students, graduates, teachers, alumni all over the world joined this seminar. Indeed, it was a great gathering, that initiated the audience to look upon the problems and prospects of food microbiology in Bangladesh.

The 40th Founding Anniversary Celebration
The Department of Microbiology at University of Dhaka celebrated the completion of glorious 40 years of its establishment on 27 December 2019 at the premises of our beloved alma mater with great enthusiasm and exuberance. Alumni from all over the globe, along with the existing students, a total of about 350 participants, converge to celebrate the foundation of the department, and meet their classmates, performed a cultural program and enjoyed a fun-filled day.
The alumni also shared their memories, their recollections of what it was like. Public comments were also focused on the proposal to change the name of alumni from DUMDAA to DUMAA. To commemorate the occasion, a colorful Souvenir and departmental Directory were published on this occasion that displayed pictures of various activities held through the years, and were distributed to all students, alumni, staff and guests. The celebration surpassed all expectations and showed the extent of alumni pride and loyalty.
