Today, on 27th August 2026 a seminar on “Reflecting on Peace – Through the Past and Present of Nagasaki –” held at the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka. The seminar was jointly organized by the IML, University of Dhaka and METRO PLUS Co., Ltd., Japan. Ms. Ayako Kawasaki, President, METRO PLUS Co., Ltd. and Professor Dr. Mohammed Ansarul Alam, Dept. of JLC, IML, University of Dhaka were the Speakers. Mr. Takashi Kawasaki, Director General of METRO PLUS Co., Ltd., Japan, and Mr. Yu Aoyagi, Head of the Cultural Section, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh were present as Special Guests. Prof. Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka has graced the program as Chief Guest. The seminar was chaired by Professor Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of IML, University of Dhaka. Ms. Anika Begum, Lecturer of JLC was the MC of the program. Speakers and guests discussed how Nagasaki suffered during and right after the World War 2 and gradually has become such developed and beautiful city. They also emphasized on Peace in every spare of life.
In this program prizes have been distributed to the winners and participants of the “1st Japanese Essay Writing Competition 2026”. Sumaya Akhtar Sumi of IML, Md. Shahi Ahmed and Maria Tasnim of Metro IT & Japanese Language Institute secured First, Second and Third position respectively. Among the others Mr. Tomoyuki Fukui, Japan Foundation Expert, from Metro IT Mr. Yoshio Isozaki and Ms. Takiko Honda, from IML Associate Professor Mr. Bipul Chandra Debnath and Lecturer Shahrin Mustofa Sristy were present.
At the end of program, a Peace Rally in participation with all guests from Nagasaki, Japan, teaches and students of IML, DU and Metro IT marched from IML to Aporajeo Bangla via Raju Vashkorjo.
