ভাষাবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের উদ্যোগে ২৭ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে “How machines ‘understand’ words” শীর্ষক একটি সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সেমিনারে মূল বক্তা হিসেবে বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইনস্টিটিউট অব ইনফরমেশন টেকনোলজির সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. আহমেদুল কবির। তাঁর আলোচনায় যন্ত্র কীভাবে ভাষা প্রক্রিয়াকরণ করে এবং শব্দের অর্থ “বোঝে”—এই বিষয়টি সমকালীন গবেষণা ও প্রাসঙ্গিক উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে উপস্থাপিত হয়।

সেমিনারের আহ্বায়ক ছিলেন ভাষাবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. সৈয়দ শাহরিয়ার রহমান। অনুষ্ঠানে বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ এবং বিভিন্ন বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থীরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। উপস্থাপনার পর একটি প্রাণবন্ত প্রশ্নোত্তর পর্ব অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যেখানে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা বিষয়-সম্পর্কিত বিভিন্ন প্রশ্ন উত্থাপন করেন এবং বক্তা সেগুলোর বিস্তারিত উত্তর প্রদান করেন।

সেমিনারটি ভাষাবিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তির আন্তঃসম্পর্ক নিয়ে একটি ফলপ্রসূ, অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক ও অংশগ্রহণমূলক একাডেমিক আলোচনার প্ল্যাটফর্ম হিসেবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

The Department of Linguistics, University of Dhaka, organized a seminar on 27 April 2026 titled “How machines ‘understand’ words.” The keynote speaker was Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Associate Professor at the Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka. In his talk, he explained how machines process language and “understand” words, presenting contemporary research and relevant examples.

The seminar was convened by Professor Dr. Syed Shahrier Rahman of the Department of Linguistics. The event was attended by faculty members and students from various academic years. A lively question-and-answer session followed the presentation, where participants raised insightful questions and the speaker responded in detail.

The seminar served as a productive, inclusive, and interactive academic platform for discussing the intersection of linguistics and technology.
