Nobin Boron of Department of Finance was held
Department of Finance, University of Dhaka organized an orientation program at the auditorium of TSC of the University of Dhaka on 17th November 2022 to welcome freshers from BBA 28th batch. The event was segmented into two segments: a formal segment and a cultural segment. The chairman of the department, Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, presided over the formal segment. Mr. Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, the secretary of the Financial Institution Division of the Ministry of Finance, was the chief guest and the commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, was the special guest. The active participation of all existing batches made the event vibrant.
In the speech of the honorable chief guest, Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah reminisced about his golden days which he passed at the University of Dhaka. He mentioned that the Department of Finance of the University of Dhaka is renowned for decades as one of the best facilitators of finance education in Bangladesh by making qualified finance graduates. He advised the freshers not to confine themselves only to academic activities, but rather told them to take part in co-curricular activities as well. He also advised them to take honesty as their path of life.
The chairman of the Department of Finance introduced the fresher to different sides of the department. He said, “From today, you are the flag bearer of our department. You will represent our department on the world stage. Keep the legacy of supremacy in every sector. Be ready to face the challenge of the future corporate world”. Besides, he announced the news of getting a position of the finance department in the world’s top 250-300 business schools by QS ranking. Finally, he reminded the freshers to show excellence not only in the academic sector but also personal, social, and moral life. He also expressed his gratitude to every teacher, staff and student for making the program successful. Aparajita Hasan Ahona, A representative of the freshers, shared her experience and took a vow to continue the glory of Finance. This segment was anchored by Samira Tanzim Jahin and Md Farvez Mosharrof from the 24th batch.
The department published a magazine named “Shoronika” on the arrival of the new batch. The guests unveiled it. The magazine contains a manifestation of the student’s enthusiasm for literature. Different stories, poems, and articles of the students have been published in the magazine. Md. Farvez Mosharrof, the editor of the magazine, expressed that this magazine brought out the latent talents of the finance people of the department.
After the formal orientation program, the students of the department performed a colorful cultural segment. Through dance, they represented the whole Bangladeshi culture. The whole BBA life has been drawn by a drama. In fact, it was a grand day for celebration for the students of this department. Finally, with another closing speech from the Chairman of the department, the event ended.
The event was undoubtedly a platform for breaking the ice among senior juniors and faculty. It’s a dress rehearsal of 50 year’s grand celebration of the department which will be held in July 2023. Every stakeholder of the Department expects to continue this legacy.
